BONEWITS'S ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO WITCHCRAFT AND WICCA, 2006, Isaac Bonewits
DRAWING DOWN THE MOON, 1979; revised 1986, Margot Adler. The most comprehensive, essential book on the modern Neo-Pagan movement.
THE EARTH PATH, 2004, Starhawk. From time immemorial, artists and poets, prophets, and shamans have drawn strength and inspiration from walking the earth. In The Earth Path, bestselling author Starhawk takes the reader on a journey into the heart of the natural world, showing how we can have a more intimate connection with the world that surrounds us.
THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WITCHES & WITCHCRAFT, 1989, Rosemary Guiley. Excellent entries on people, groups, history, of both Witchcraft and Neo-Paganism.
FULL CIRCLE, THE GODDESS REMEMBERED, THE BURNING TIMES, 1993, Donna Read. Documentary "trilogy." The haunting music of Loreena McKinnet adds to the mystical nature of this well produced video trilogy on Goddess worship and women's spirituality. Lots of symbolism of the divine female makes these documentaries visually inspiring. Various ancient, Goddess worshiping cultures are examined and applied to today's patriarchal worldview. There is a treat; Starhawk is one of the circle of modern women discussing how the Goddess has changed, shaped, and enhanced their lives. Anthropological, mythical, and inspiring. (VHS)
HEAVEN ON EARTH: DISPATCHES FROM AMERICA'S SPIRITUAL FRONTIER, 1992, Michael d'Antonio. A wandering reporter chronicles the New Age and Pagan communities in 1991, including neo-Pagan participation in Redwood Summer.
THE MAGICAL HOUSEHOLD, 1987, Scott Cunningham & David Harrington.
MAGICAL RELIGION & MODERN WITCHCRAFT, 1996, James R. Lewis, ed. Academic anthology of writings by various Neo-Pagan scholars and luminaries
THE PAGAN PATH, 1995, Janet & Stewart Farrar & Gavin Bone. Excellent updated overview of the worldwide Pagan movement.
PAGAN RITES OF PASSAGE, 1994, Pauline & Dan Campanelli.
PEOPLE OF THE EARTH: THE NEW PAGANS SPEAK OUT, 1996, Ellen Everet Hopman & Lawrence Bond. Inteviews with many major Pagan leaders.
SIRENS, 1994. Beautiful movie centered on the great Australian Neo-Pagan artist of the early 20th century, Norman Lindsey. (DVD)
THE SPIRAL DANCE, 1979, Starhawk. The most basic, readable, and concise book on Neo-Pagan premises and practice.
TRUE MAGICK: A Beginner`s Guide, 1990, Amber K. Practical, cheap, complete, humorous. A good companion to Spiral Dance.
THE TWELVE WILD SWANS, 2001, Starhawk\Valentine
The long-awaited continuation of the teachings of the best selling classic The Spiral Dance. A fairy tale about twelve wild swans is transformed into a set of instructions for an initiatory journey into the world of magic and Witchcraft. The sourcebook for circles, covens, and groups, this volume instructs on three levels -- the craft of magical training, inner-spiritual development, and outer work in the greater world. It will be a resource for all students, teachers, and leaders in the growing Goddess movement. Paperback, 326 pages.

VOICES FROM THE CIRCLE: THE HERITAGE OF WESTERN PAGANISM, 1990, Prudence Jones & Caitlin Matthews.
WITCHCRAFT, THE OLD RELIGION, 1973, Leo Louis Manello. A pretty good report on the emerging perspectives of the early Neo-Pagan movement.
WEST COUNTRY WICCA: A JOURNAL OF THE OLD RELIGION, 1990, Rhiannon Ryall.
Memories of Craft life in Devonshire/Somerset in the 1940s among country folks who practiced the Old Religion.

BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE, 1958, Kim Novak & James Stewart. Charming "this is how we all wish it really was" kind of tale about a young witch (Novak) who falls for a mortal (Stewart) and loses her powers. (comedy) (DVD)
THE BUTCHER'S WIFE, 1991, Demi Moore, Jeff Daniels. Marina (Demi Moore), a blonde Southern clairvoyant, sees signs--a shooting star with two tails, a snowglobe that washes up on the beach, a wedding band inside of a fish--telling her that her true love is about to come ashore. And soon enough, a boat lands on the beach in front of her home; only the guy inside is a stout butcher from New York City named Leo (George Dzundza). Still, portents are portents, and the next thing you know she's married and running barefoot around a butcher's shop in Greenwich Village, where she inspires various residents with her predictions. Leo, however, is creeped out by his wife's abilities, and encourages her to see Alex (Jeff Daniels), a psychiatrist who works across the street. To placate him, she does--and soon begins to suspect that she's misread her signs and married the wrong man. (comedy) (DVD)
CHARMED, 1999-2006, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan. Protecting the innocent, vanquishing evil and evil doers, and generally righting wrongs are not exactly on the agenda of every twenty-something on the fast track to discovering what life's all about. But for the Halliwell sisters, this has become their destiny. (DVD)

THE CRAFT, 1996, Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk. This is a film made purely for entertainment purposes. The more anal members of the neo-pagan community didn't like this movie, and even I find it offensive at times how witchcraft is portrayed. However, there are redeeming features such as great acting by Neve Campbell and Fairuza Balk (a real witch too!!). Basically tells the story of Sarah, a newcomer to a Catholic school who is eager to make friends and incidently turns up in the wrong crowd. I catagorize it (like most of the movies here) as a "we wish it were like this" movie. (drama) (DVD)
FAIRY TALE: A TRUE STORY, 1997, Florence Hoath, Elizabeth Earl. Based on the true story of two young girls who claim to have seen fairies in England during WW1,"Fairytale:A True Story" features superb acting throughout, especially Elizabeth Earl and Florence Hoath as Francis Griffiths and Elsie Wright, whose fairy sightings stirred up quite a bit of controversy throughout wartime England. Among the people caught up are Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, (Peter O"Toole) and Harry Houdini (Harvey Keitel) Brilliantly cast and beautifully photographed, it is enchanting entertainment from beginning to end. (drama) (DVD)
GROUNDHOG DAY, 1993, Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell. Wonderful story about a man trapped in a time loop. A favorite of OMS Druids around the world, they traditionally screen this movie during the post Imbolq potluck. (comedy) (DVD)
PRACTICAL MAGIC, 1998, Alice Hoffman. For more than two hundred years, the Owens women had been blamed for everything that went wrong in their Massachusetts town. And Gillian and Sally endured that fate as well; as children, the sisters were outsiders. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, but all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape. One would do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they shared brought them back-almost as if by magic... (fiction)
PRACTICAL MAGIC, 1998, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman. If a broom falls, company is due. When a circle rings the moon, trouble looms, Should you misplace your broom, sorry; a hand vac can't be used in an exorcism rite. Fun and excitement abound in the Owens family of wily witches. One problem, though: the men the Owens women fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman bring a sparkling screen magic to Practical Magic, adapted from Alice Hoffman's bestseller (which it is pretty faithful to) and directed by Griffin Dunne (Addicted to Love). They play Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters hexed by a centuries -old curse...and coping with a witches brew of events involving a possible love match (Aidan Quinn) for one, a zombie (Goran Visnjic) for the other and a need to resume the age-old witchcraft taught by two doting Owens aunts (Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest). Sit for a spell and enjoy. (comedy-drama) (DVD)
SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH, 1996, Melissa Joan Hart. The movie is based on the character that appears in Archie Comics. A Showtime original movie, it spawned the hit TV series.
Sabrina Spellman's parents have gone on a trip far away and have left her withe her two aunts, Hilda and Zelda (Not played by the same people on the show). She has a hard time fitting in. On her 16th birthday, her aunts explain to her that she is a witch. She tries to use her magical powers to make the most popular boy in school fall in love with her, but the concequences could be deadly. What she dosen't see is that her friend Harvey (not played by the same guy on the show) loves her. Now she has to make the right choices or she will be doomed forever. It's funny but not as funny as the show. For one thing, the voice of Salem is different. This movie is really good despite the changes. (fantasy) (DVD)
TROLL / TROLL 2, 1991, Michael Moriarty, Shelley Hack. I loved Troll, which is about the magical take over / transformation of an entire apartment building by a Troll. I haven't seen the companion sequel, Troll 2, but the reviews I have read suggest it may be the worst movie ever made. Basically, you get two movies for the price of one, so how bad could it be? (fantasy) (DVD)
THE WICKER MAN, 1974, Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee. Some call it horror. Some call it mystery. I call it good clean fun! Neo-Pagans have embraced this film because it paints a picture of what life might be like if you lived on an island with only Pagans to deal with. The film shows accurate dipictions of some neo-Pagan rites, and a few Pagan and Wiccan groups require this film for new initiates. It does end in a rather dark way, and it were not for that ending, it would be the perfect neo-Pagan film. (mystery) (DVD)
THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, 1986, John Updik. In a small New England town in the late 1960s, there lived three witches Alexandra Spoffard, sculptress, could create thunderstorms. Jane Smart, a cellist, could fly. The local gossip columnist, Sukie Rougemont, could turn milk into cream. Divorced but hardly celibate, content but always ripe for adventure, our three wonderful witches one day found themselves quite under the spell of the new man in town, Darryl Van Horne, whose hot tub was the scene of some rather bewitching delights. The DVD is much better than the book. (fiction)
THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, 1987, Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer . The "witches" (who aren't really aware of the fact) are much more interesting than Jack, but this tale of magick and polyamory is funny, and entertaining. Much better than the book (and not very true to it). One of my favorites. (comedy) (DVD)
