NORTHERN
EXPOSURE,
1990 - 1995, Created by Joshua Brand, John Falsey.
Rob Morrow .... Dr. Joel Fleischman
Barry Corbin .... Maurice J. Minnifield
Janine Turner .... Maggie O'Connell
John Cullum .... Holling Gustaf Vincoeur
Darren E. Burrows .... Edward 'Ed' Chigliak
John Corbett .... Christopher 'Chris' Stevens
Cynthia Geary .... Shelly Marie Tambo Vincoeur
Elaine Miles .... Marilyn Whirlwind
Peg Phillips .... Ruth-Anne Miller Whether
it's a snowy nude sprint down Main Street, the mysterious
appearance of a long-lost relative, or the improbable death
of yet another of Maggie's boyfriends, life's never dull in
the remote hamlet of Cicely, Alaska. Colorful characters and
quirky plots propelled Northern Exposure into the hearts of
millions of viewers, earning the CBS "dramedy" series
seven Emmy awards between its 1990 debut and its demise six
seasons later.
Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow) is an urban New York yuppie
who consents to four years of rural servitude after Alaska
pays his medical-school tuition. Joel's fish-out-of-water
adventures drive the show, but it's the quirky ensemble of
characters--Chris, the DJ/philosopher (John Corbett), Holling,
the bartender (John Cullum), Maurice, the town patriarch (Barry
Corbin), Ed, the filmmaker (Darren E. Burrows), and Maggie,
the bush pilot (Janine Turner), among others–-that keeps
the series consistently entertaining. The town develops its
own offbeat personality as well, a Mayberry-meets-Twin-Peaks
blend of Native mysticism, Aurora Borealis-induced dreams,
unlikely tales of long-lost family members, and rumors of
a Bigfoot-like creature known simply as "Adam."
Northern Exposure provides a utopian escape--a place where
life is interesting but never dangerous, everyone's insightful,
the mystical becomes real, and nobody's burdened with a mundane
9-to-6 desk job. Cicely is a delightful place to visit, even
if it's only for an hour at a time. This is the very best
television series ever concieved, and a "must view"
for any one calling themselves "Pagan," imnsho.

ROSWELL
, 1999-2002, John Behring, Arvin Brown.
Shiri Appleby .... Liz Parker
Jason Behr .... Max Evans
Katherine Heigl .... Isabel Evans
Majandra Delfino .... Maria DeLuca
Brendan Fehr .... Michael Guerin
Colin Hanks .... Alex Whitman (1999-2001)
Nick Wechsler .... Kyle Valenti
Emilie de Ravin .... Tess Harding (2000-2001)
Adam Rodriguez .... Jesse Ramirez (2001-2002)
William Sadler .... Jim Valenti
As
a Neo-Pagan living in a (mostly) Judeo-Xtian society, I can
relate to the plight of Max, Isabel, Tess and Michael, four
alien teens who look and act and feel just like anyone else,
but who know they are "different" (and plus - they
have "powers"). Living among the citizens of the
infamous New Mexico city of Roswell are four who are not there
by choice. They are there to follow a destiny given to them
by the members of their dying race, a race that they are someday
destined to save. This is the background behind the WB series
"Roswell". Max Evans, Isabel Evans, Michael Guerin
and Tess Harding are teenage humans with extraordinary gifts
- gifts that are "not-of-this-earth". They are human/alien
hybrids, sent here as replacements for the royalty of an alien
race. Their counterparts have already perished in a war of
attrition, thus one day, the "royal four" will return
to their home planet and save their race. Before a fateful
day in 1999, the teens hid their gifts. The event that forever
changed their lives was when Max healed Liz Parker (a classmate)
after she was fatally shot in the stomach in a dispute between
two customers at the restaurant where she waitresses. A close
relationship then developed between Max and Liz. It was later
mirrored by a relationship between Liz's best friend Maria
Deluca and Michael. (DVD) |

STAR
TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION,
1998 - 1994, Created by Gene Roddenberry.
Patrick Stewart ... Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Jonathan Frakes ... Commander William T. Riker
LeVar Burton ... Lieutenant/Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge
Denise Crosby ... Lieutenant Tasha Yar (1987-1988)
Michael Dorn ... Lieutenant Worf
Gates McFadden ... Dr. Beverly Crusher (1987-1988, 1989-1994)
Marina Sirtis ... Counselor Deanna Troi
Brent Spiner ... Lt. Commander Data/Dr. Noonian Soong/Lore
Wil Wheaton ... Ensign Wesley Crusher (1987-1990)
Warping into syndication in 1987, Star Trek: The Next Generation
successfully launched its seven-season "continuing mission"
of the starship Enterprise. A ratings leader with a sharp ensemble
cast, this revamped Trek honored series creator Gene Roddenberry's
original Trek concept. Enterprise D is more of a science ship
than a military vessel, and it's readily apparent that Capt.
Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is modeled after Capt. Jaques
Cousteau. (DVD) |

Orbiting
the liberated planet of Bajor, a Federation space station guards
the opening of a stable wormhole to the far side of the Galaxy. The
wormhole is known to the Bajoran people as the Celestial Temple
of their Prophets. Sisko, as discoverer of the wormhole and
its inhabitants, is therefore the Emissary of Bajoran prophesy.
The wormhole's other end is in the Gamma Quadrant, halfway around
the galaxy from Bajor. That section of space is dominated by
the malevolent Dominion. The Dominion is led by the Changelings,
the race of shapeshifters to which Odo belongs. As of the beginning
of the sixth season, Cardassia has joined the Dominion, and
together they are waging war on the Federation and their Klingon
allies. The war is quickly becoming the most costly war ever
for the Federation, and the Deep Space Nine crew must fight
to protect their way of life. In my opinion, this is the very
best of the Star Trek TV series'. (DVD) |

The
Federation starship USS Voyager, chasing a band of Maquis rebels,
enters the dangerous space nebula known as the Badlands. Both
ships are transported by a distant space probe to the Delta
Quadrant, 75,000 light-years from Federation space. Voyager's
crew and the Maquis form an uneasy truce to rescue crewmen of
both ships, kidnapped by the probe's builder, the powerful,
dying Caretaker. The Maquis ship is destroyed in a battle with
the warlike Kazons. To prevent a Kazon aggression against a
helpless world, Voyager destroys the space probe. Without the
probe, it will take 75 years for Voyager to travel back to Federation
space. With the differences between them rendered meaningless
by time and distance, The Federation and Maquis crews unite
aboard Voyager. Together, they embark on their new mission:
to boldly go - home.(DVD) |

STAR
TREK: ENTERPRISE,
2001 - 2005, Created by Rick Berman, Brannon Braga.
Scott Bakula .... Captain Jonathan Archer
John Billingsley .... Dr. Phlox
Jolene Blalock .... Subcommander/Commander T'Pol
Dominic Keating .... Lieutenant Malcolm Reed
Anthony Montgomery .... Ensign Travis Mayweather
Linda Park .... Ensign Hoshi Sato
Connor Trinneer .... Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III
This fifth installment to the Star Trek franchise takes place
before the time of Captain Kirk and Picard. Set approximately
100 years after "First Contact", and about 100 years
before Kirk, it explores the events that will eventually lead
up to the birth of the United Federation of Planets. After DS9,
this is my favorite series. We learn moer about the Vulcans
and their religious philosphy than we ever have before. This
series should have run the full 7 seasons. But some people are
idiots. (DVD).

Beau Bridges .... Hank Landry (2005-present)
Corin Nemec .... Jonas Quinn (2002-2003)
Don S. Davis .... Major General George S. Hammond (1997-2004)
(original cast)
General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement
to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that
he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos,
and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive. Arriving
on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the
scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in
hieroglyphics. All signs point to the fact that this is a map
of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development
that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the
universe in time a reality. Wonderful TV adaptation of the 1994
movie, and a series we hope is on for years to come (DVD) |
