Dionysus
Dionysus,
also commonly known by his Roman name Bacchus, appears to
be a god who has two distinct origins. On the one hand,
Dionysus was the god of wine, agriculture, and fertility
of nature, who is also the patron god of the Greek stage.
On the other hand, Dionysus also represents the outstanding
features of mystery religions, such as those practiced at
Eleusis: ecstasy, personal delivery from the daily world
through physical or spiritual intoxication, and initiation
into secret rites. Scholars have long suspected that the
god known as Dionysus is in fact a fusion of a local Greek
nature god, and another more potent god imported rather
late in Greek pre-history from Phrygia (the central area
of modern day Turkey) or Thrace. Classic depiction of Dionysus.
With goldleaf painted accents and fine details thru-out
this cold cast resin statue. Approx 11" tall.

Hera
The
queen of the Olympian deities. She is a daughter of Cronos
and Rhea, and wife and sister of Zeus. Hera was mainly worshipped
as a goddess of marriage and birth. It is said that each
year Hera’s virginity returns by bathing in the well
Canathus. The children of Hera and Zeus are the smith-god
Hephaestus, the goddess of youth, Hebe, and the god of war,
Ares. According to some sources, however, her children were
conceived without the help of a man, either by slapping
her hand on the ground or by eating lettuce: thus they were
born, not out of love but out of lust and hatred. Classic
depiction of Hera, with goldleaf painted accents, and fine
details thru-out this cold-cast resin statue. Approx 10
1/4" tall.
